Wealthy and difficult Simeon Lee summons his estranged relatives home for Christmas. The family gathering includes his sons and their wives, whose resentment intensifies when Simeon hints that he may change his will. Also present is Pilar Estravados, an orphaned granddaughter whom the family has never met. After a violent disturbance, Simeon is discovered dead inside a locked room, turning the troubled holiday reunion into a murder investigation. Hercule Poirot must determine how the killing was committed and which family member might be responsible. Missing diamonds further complicate the case, while the strained relationships, uncertain inheritance, and locked-room circumstances leave every family member under suspicion.
