Miss Marple expects little more than rest when she arrives at the Golden Palm resort on the Caribbean island of St Honoré. Her holiday acquires a darker purpose after a fellow guest begins telling her about a murderer who escaped justice, then abruptly stops before showing her a photograph. When the storyteller dies, Miss Marple quietly searches for the missing image and studies the resort’s owners, staff, vacationers, and resident tycoon. Unexpected medication and evidence of poisoning undermine the convenient explanation for the death. Beneath the sunshine and polite conversation, Christie constructs a tightly contained mystery in which casual anecdotes, social observation, and seemingly harmless travelers may conceal mortal danger.
