Description

The Return of the King is the final volume of The Lord of the Rings and continues the saga of Middle-earth’s Hobbits and the great war surrounding the Ring. The story opens in Gondor as Sauron’s forces prepare to attack the kingdom. Alongside the main quest to destroy the Ring, the book follows a struggle to restore the Shire, carrying the consequences of the wider conflict back to the Hobbits’ home. An appendix-length account of Aragorn and Arwen broadens the narrative beyond the Hobbits’ viewpoint and spans events both before and after the central story.
