The War of the Five Kings is subsiding, but the Seven Kingdoms have inherited devastation rather than peace. In King’s Landing, young Tommen occupies the throne while Cersei Lannister governs as regent and maneuvers to secure her family’s power. Far north, Jon Snow commands the Night’s Watch as Stannis Baratheon confronts the wildlings. Elsewhere, Brienne of Tarth searches for Sansa Stark, unaware that Sansa is hidden in the Vale under Petyr Baelish’s protection. Through an unusually broad company of nobles, commoners, soldiers, schemers, assassins, and mystics, the novel follows survivors attempting to exploit a fragile political pause. Rather than centering victorious kings, A Feast for Crows examines war’s aftermath: broken institutions, shifting loyalties, private reckonings, and the new struggles taking shape among those left behind.
