Edmund and Lucy return to Narnia with their unpleasant cousin Eustace when a painting of a ship draws them through its frame and into the sea. Rescued by the Dawn Treader, they join King Caspian’s eastward voyage to find seven lost Narnian lords. Each island presents a different moral and physical trial: slave traders capture the travelers, dangerous waters tempt them, spells conceal strange communities, and a dark island turns dreams into terrors. Eustace’s greed brings a particularly drastic transformation that forces him to confront the person he has become. Alongside the valiant mouse Reepicheep, the voyagers press toward the world’s edge in an episodic fantasy about courage, temptation, repentance, and longing for the unknown.
