Bored beside her sister, Alice follows a hurried White Rabbit down a hole and tumbles into an underground world governed by unstable size, slippery language, and arbitrary rules. Drinks and cakes make her grow or shrink as she struggles to reach a locked garden. An absurd race offers no clear beginning or winner, while a Caterpillar’s questions unsettle her confidence in her own identity and memory. Throughout her wandering, talking animals and other strange figures treat nonsense as ordinary procedure, leaving Alice to test their claims with a child’s blunt reason. The novel unfolds as a chain of comic encounters rather than a conventional quest, using puns, reversals, and distorted social rituals to challenge familiar assumptions about logic, authority, education, and growing up.
