Young Jim Hawkins lives at the Admiral Benbow Inn, where the arrival of a frightened old sailor brings piracy to his doorstep. After the man’s death, Jim and his mother discover a map showing the location of Captain Flint’s buried treasure. Jim joins an expedition aboard the Hispaniola as cabin boy and quickly warms to its charismatic, one-legged cook, Long John Silver. Then he overhears plans for mutiny and realizes that much of the crew intends to seize the ship and treasure. On the island, shifting loyalties, armed conflict, and Jim’s encounter with the marooned Ben Gunn turn the voyage into a test of judgment and nerve. The adventure pairs youthful discovery with a wary study of greed, courage, and charm used as deception.
