In postwar London, childhood friends Tommy Beresford and Tuppence Cowley reunite with little money and no employment, then advertise themselves as the Young Adventurers, willing to undertake almost any assignment. Their joking enterprise becomes serious when the name Jane Finn links them to a woman who vanished after receiving a secret wartime treaty. If recovered by revolutionary conspirators, the document could destabilize the British government and help trigger a general strike. An intelligence contact hires the pair to find Jane while warning them about the elusive enemy agent Mr Brown. Joined by Jane’s wealthy American cousin, Tommy and Tuppence use disguises, infiltration, and improvisation in an espionage adventure where charm and nerve matter as much as deduction.
