Description

On a bleak December night, an unnamed scholar tries to distract himself from grief over the death of Lenore by reading alone in his chamber. A tapping at the door and window brings an unexpected visitor: a raven that settles above him and answers every question with the same repeated word. What begins as nervous curiosity becomes a ritual of self-torment as the speaker asks about loss, memory, spiritual consolation, and reunion with the dead, already knowing the answer he will receive. Poe’s insistent rhyme, internal echoes, and stylized repetitions create a musical movement toward madness. The Raven transforms a simple supernatural visitation into a concentrated study of grief feeding upon its own questions.
