Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon arrives at the United States Capitol expecting to meet his mentor, Peter Solomon, only to discover that the invitation came from Solomon’s kidnapper. To save him, Langdon must locate a Masonic pyramid and decipher a hidden word said to unlock ancient knowledge. Clues placed in Solomon’s severed hand lead through the Capitol, while two concealed pieces of the pyramid pull Langdon into conflict with officials pursuing the same mystery. Freemason Warren Bellamy helps him escape custody and continue the search. The conspiracy also closes in on Solomon’s sister Katherine, destroying the laboratory where she conducts noetic research. The thriller turns Washington’s monuments, chambers, and secret traditions into stages for a race between symbolic interpretation and escalating violence.
