In the Texas desert near the Mexican border, Llewelyn Moss discovers the bloody remains of a failed drug deal and a satchel holding $2.4 million. He takes the money, setting off a pursuit in which every attempt to escape draws danger closer to him and his wife. Anton Chigurh, a heavily armed killer, follows with relentless purpose, while bounty hunter Carson Wells also tracks the missing cash. Sheriff Ed Tom Bell investigates the spreading violence and tries to protect the couple, but the case confronts him with a brutality he struggles to comprehend. Moving between Moss’s improvisational flight, Chigurh’s lethal certainty, and Bell’s troubled reflections, the novel combines a stripped-down crime chase with a Western meditation on chance, responsibility, and a changing moral order.
