Description

The Illustrated Man gathers eighteen science-fiction stories within a frame narrative centered on a tattooed former carnival performer. His animated tattoos reveal the tales one by one, giving the collection a shared structure, with each tattoo presenting a separate story. Across these narratives, human psychology repeatedly comes into conflict with the cold mechanics of technology. The book is a revised fix-up rather than a single continuous novel: most of its component stories originally appeared elsewhere before being assembled and revised for this volume. The result is a linked collection whose recurring concern is the uneasy relationship between human behavior and technological systems.
