Description

Buck begins life as a powerful, pampered dog in California, but thieves sell him into sled service during the 1890s Klondike Gold Rush. Shipped north and subjected to abuse, he learns that survival depends on understanding both human violence and the unforgiving laws of the pack. Other dogs teach him to sleep beneath the snow and endure the trail, while his rivalry with lead dog Spitz sharpens his drive to dominate. Exhausting mail routes carry the team through the Yukon under heavy loads, stripping away the habits of domestic life. As hardship awakens increasingly primitive instincts, Buck’s adventure becomes a study of adaptation, power, and the wilderness’s pull on an animal remade by necessity.
