After a shipwreck scatters cargo across an uninhabited island, the animals accidentally activate Roz, a service robot built for a very different world. Feared at first as a monster, she survives by observing the wildlife, learning their languages, and adapting her mechanical abilities to the seasons. When an orphaned goose egg hatches, Roz becomes adoptive mother to Brightbill and must help him eat, swim, and fly before migration. Their shelter, shared with the fox Fink, becomes the center of an unlikely community. Yet Roz remains connected to the company that manufactured her, placing her new island family at risk in a story about adaptation, parenthood, belonging, and the boundary between programming and care.
