Description

Prince Raoden is transformed by the Shaod and secretly exiled to Elantris just before Princess Sarene arrives for their wedding. The Elantrian curse leaves injuries unhealed, so pain persists and can eventually drive its victims insane. Raoden struggles to preserve his sanity and unite Elantris's afflicted inhabitants. Outside Elantris, Sarene tries to save Arelon by stabilizing a monarchy whose nobles mistreat peasants and by opposing Hrathen's religious revolution. Hrathen, a priest, has three months to convert Arelon before Fjorden's armies destroy it, and he maneuvers to place a converted ruler on the throne.
