Alone with You in the Ether

Literary fiction

Description

In Chicago, Aldo Damiani is a doctoral student consumed by mathematics, time, and the patterns that might make existence intelligible. Regan is an artist whose quick, searching mind moves between creative exhilaration and the demands of living with bipolar disorder. A chance meeting at an art museum leads them to an unusual arrangement: six conversations, treated almost as an experiment in whether two strangers can truly know one another. Attraction soon unsettles the boundaries they set, and each becomes both refuge and risk for the other. Moving through intimate dialogue, nonlinear reflection, and competing perceptions, the novel examines romantic obsession, mental illness, art, and the temptation to make another person the organizing principle of one’s life.
