Ten-year-old Winnie Foster, stifled by her protective family in the 1880 village of Treegap, ventures into the woods beside her home. There she sees Jesse Tuck drink from a hidden spring and learns why he stops her from following: its water has made the entire Tuck family unable to age. As Winnie enters their affectionate but isolated world, Angus Tuck explains immortality as a separation from life’s natural movement rather than a simple gift. Jesse nevertheless invites her to drink when she is older and join him forever. Meanwhile, a man in a yellow suit searches for the secret, forcing Winnie to weigh freedom, mortality, loyalty, and the consequences of endless life.
