A curious boy in a gloomy woodland town visits the Once-ler to learn what happened to the missing Lorax. The Once-ler recalls a vibrant valley filled with Truffula Trees and playful animals. After turning one tree into a versatile product, he expands production into an industrial logging operation despite the objections of the tree-protecting Lorax. As the forest is harvested, the valley suffers pollution and environmental devastation. Told as a cautionary rhyming tale, the story follows a child searching for answers about ecological ruin and the responsibility people bear for what happens to the natural world.
