Description

Bastian Balthazar Bux, grieving his mother and neglected by his father, steals a mysterious book while escaping school bullies. Inside it, the realm of Fantastica is vanishing before the formless Nothing, and its ailing Childlike Empress sends the young warrior Atreyu to seek a cure. Protected by the Auryn amulet, Atreyu crosses a landscape of ancient creatures, deadly swamps, oracles, and impossible distances, while Bastian gradually senses that he is more than a reader of the quest. Fantastica needs a human act of imagination to survive, but entering its story gives Bastian desires powerful enough to remake the realm at the cost of his memories. The fantasy explores creation, identity, grief, and the danger of losing oneself inside wishes.
