Chetan Bhagat’s The Girl in Room 105 is a mystery novel about Keshav Rajpurohit, an IIT graduate and coaching tutor whose relationship with Zara ended amid religious conflict between their families. When Zara summons him to her hostel room on her birthday, Keshav finds her murdered and reports the crime. Although police eventually close the case, he remains determined to identify her killer. Assisted by his friend Saurabh and Inspector Vikas Rana, Keshav follows clues through Zara’s academic and family circles to Kashmir. The investigation also touches on Zara’s stepbrother and a fundamentalist group called Tehreek, while the novel addresses stereotypes and political issues in India.
