Description

Radhika Mehta is a senior Goldman Sachs employee preparing to marry Brijesh Gulati, a software engineer based in San Francisco. As wedding celebrations gather around her, memories return to her childhood as an introverted, studious girl in Delhi and to the career that carried her through investment-banking posts in Hong Kong and London. That success once strained her live-in relationship with Debu, who resented the demands of her work. Now Debu reappears and tries to disrupt the marriage despite Radhika’s refusal to resume their relationship. Moving between the wedding and the choices that led to it, the novel examines how professional ambition, romantic expectation, family pressure, and ideas about the proper life for an Indian woman compete for authority over Radhika’s future.
