Unable to sleep one night, orphaned Sophie sees a giant outside her window and is carried away to Giant Country. Her captor proves to be the Big Friendly Giant, a gentle outsider among much larger giants who eat people and threaten him as readily as they threaten her. While hiding Sophie from his brutal neighbors, the BFG reveals his secret work: collecting dreams and delivering good ones to sleeping children. Survival soon demands more than concealment, and Sophie persuades her new friend to seek help from the Queen of England against the other giants. Their unlikely partnership combines danger, dream-making, and playful adventure in a story about two vulnerable figures using courage and ingenuity against enemies far stronger than either of them.
