Fourth-graders George Beard and Harold Hutchins fill their days at Jerome Horwitz Elementary with pranks and homemade comics about Captain Underpants. After their latest stunt disrupts a football game, principal Mr. Krupp retaliates with punishing rules, homework, and chores. The boys answer by using a novelty hypnotism ring, accidentally convincing Krupp that he is their underdressed superhero. His fearless new identity soon carries all three into a real confrontation with robot thieves and Dr. Diaper, whose crystal-powered machine threatens the Moon. Mixing prose, cartoon sequences, schoolyard rebellion, and gleefully juvenile jokes, the adventure turns the boys’ imagination into both the cause of escalating chaos and their best chance of stopping it.
