Greg Heffley would rather spend his free time playing video games, but his mother is determined to push him toward more creative pursuits. With Halloween approaching, Greg’s imagination supplies plenty of anxiety before he has produced anything at all. Then a discovery involving gummy worms inspires a possible solution: he could make a movie, demonstrate his creativity, win his mother’s approval, and perhaps earn fame or money in the process. Turning that ambition into an actual film, however, exposes the gap between Greg’s grand expectations and his ability to manage people, materials, and fear. Told through his illustrated journal, the book treats creativity as another arena for schemes and unintended consequences, balancing seasonal scares with comedy about ambition, insecurity, and family pressure.
