Description

Juan Preciado travels to Comala to find the father he promised his dying mother he would meet. The town appears to be inhabited by spectral figures, whose accounts gradually reveal its history and the importance of Juan’s reckless father, Pedro Páramo. The narrative unfolds nonlinearly, initially leaving readers uncertain about which characters are alive and which are dead. Within that history, Pedro’s financial troubles lead to a plan involving marriage to Dolores Preciado. He seeks to expand his estate, while Dolores eventually leaves him to live with her sister. Juan’s search therefore opens onto both a haunted town and the fragmented story of his parents.
