On a red-eye flight from California to Maine, a handful of sleeping passengers awaken to find almost everyone else—including the crew—gone. Pilot Brian Engle takes control of the aircraft, but landing offers no return to normality: the airport is deserted, communications are dead, and the physical world seems oddly depleted. Food has lost its taste, familiar sounds feel wrong, and an ominous noise in the distance keeps growing louder. Trapped together, the survivors must manage panic, conflicting explanations, and one passenger whose instability threatens the group. The Langoliers combines locked-room suspense with cosmic horror, turning an ordinary flight into a struggle against time and an environment that no longer obeys familiar rules.
