Description

During the Spanish Civil War, American volunteer Robert Jordan joins a Republican guerrilla band in the Sierra de Guadarrama. A demolition expert, he has been ordered to destroy a bridge behind enemy lines at the precise moment an offensive begins. The mission depends on fighters divided by fear, rivalry, and doubts about the plan, leaving Jordan to improvise under the threat of fascist retaliation. At the hidden camp he meets María, a young woman traumatized by war, and their rapid intimacy gives personal weight to a duty measured in explosives and timing. Compressed into the days before the attack, the novel examines courage, sacrifice, political commitment, and love under conditions that deny anyone the luxury of a distant future.
