Description

Edgar Freemantle, a wealthy Minnesota contractor, survives a devastating accident that costs him an arm and impairs his speech, vision, and memory. Suicidal thoughts and violent mood swings complicate his recovery and contribute to the collapse of his marriage. Following his psychologist’s advice, Edgar moves to a beach house on Florida’s Duma Key and resumes sketching. His increasingly obsessive art reveals psychic visions, hidden personal truths, and an ominous ship approaching shore. Friendships with elderly heiress Elizabeth Eastlake and her attendant, Wireman, lead Edgar into the island’s dangerous supernatural history and a confrontation with otherworldly threats.
