After the faction system collapses, Tris Prior and Tobias Eaton confront new divisions inside future Chicago and a movement determined to restore the old social order. Hoping to discover what lies beyond the city’s boundaries, they join an expedition into the outside world. There they encounter a government bureau that has been monitoring Chicago as part of a genetic experiment, forcing both narrators to reconsider the identities and histories that shaped them. As Tobias is drawn toward another rebellion, Tris learns of a plan capable of erasing the city’s memories. Told through their alternating perspectives, Allegiant turns a search for truth into a conflict over inherited prejudice, political control, loyalty, and sacrifice.
