Gerald the elephant is alarmed when a bird lands on his head, and his distress grows when a second bird joins it. Because Gerald cannot see what is happening above him, his cheerful best friend Piggie supplies updates that make the situation sound increasingly permanent. The visitors court, build a nest, and develop family plans while Gerald struggles to express what he wants. Told largely through speech-bubble dialogue and expressive illustrations, the early-reader story turns a simple misunderstanding into escalating visual comedy. Beneath the joke is a practical lesson about communication: Piggie can describe Gerald’s problem and offer advice, but Gerald must finally speak directly to the birds for himself.
