The Tales of Beedle the Bard gathers five fairy tales familiar to generations of young witches and wizards. A hopping pot punishes a wizard who refuses to help his neighbors; a magical fountain promises relief to those fortunate enough to reach it; and three brothers encounter Death after crossing a dangerous river. Other stories concern a dangerous heart and the resourceful Babbitty Rabbitty. Each tale is followed by Albus Dumbledore’s commentary, which connects its moral puzzles to wizarding history, personal memory, and disagreements over interpretation. The result combines the compact pleasures of folklore with reflections on magic, power, fear, generosity, and mortality, presenting stories whose apparent simplicity invites argument about what their lessons actually mean.
