Quoyle is an unsuccessful newspaper reporter who moves with his two daughters to his family’s ancestral corner of Newfoundland, hoping distance will give their damaged lives a new shape. With his aunt Agnis Hamm, he settles into an abandoned house exposed to the region’s punishing weather and takes a job at a small-town paper. His assignments—shipping traffic, wrecks, and local accidents—draw him into a coastal community where livelihood and disaster arrive from the same waters. As unsettling family secrets surface, Quoyle slowly builds friendships, meaningful work, and a bond with Wavey Prowse. Dark comedy and flashes of the uncanny accompany a story about inherited pain, precarious belonging, and the possibility of making a home.
