Jack works the night shift at a twenty-four-hour gas station on the edge of town, where drunken customers and thieving raccoons are only the most ordinary interruptions. His strange routine becomes far more dangerous when a local politician’s body turns up in a car trunk, setting off a chain of events that could end far beyond the station forecourt. Soon Jack is trapped among monster hunters, doomsday cultists, lethal strangers, animate garden gnomes, and an ancient force invading people’s dreams. Armed with sarcasm, improvised solutions, and an unsafe quantity of coffee, he must survive an increasingly chaotic night. The novel mixes supernatural horror with absurdist comedy, treating its isolated workplace as a crossroads for every possible variety of menace.
