Description

Darrow is a Red miner beneath the surface of future Mars, extracting helium-3 for a civilization that promises his labor will help make the planet habitable. In reality, the Solar System is already ruled by the Society, a genetically engineered hierarchy in which fourteen Colors serve the dominant Golds. Drawn into the Sons of Ares rebellion, Darrow undergoes a dangerous physical transformation and learns to pass as one of the elite. His mission takes him into the Institute, where privileged Gold students wage a brutal simulated conquest against one another. To undermine the Society from within, Darrow must master the cruelty, ambition, and shifting alliances that sustain its power without losing sight of the people trapped below.
