Professor Otto Lidenbrock, an eccentric and determined scientist, discovers a coded note inside an Icelandic manuscript that appears to identify a route into the Earth. Convinced that volcanic passages can reach the planet’s center, he travels to Iceland and descends through Snæfellsjökull with his reluctant nephew Axel and their steady guide, Hans. The underground route soon becomes a test of endurance and improvisation as cave-ins, storms, and other strange phenomena repeatedly threaten the party. Their descent eventually opens onto a vast subterranean world containing an underground ocean and prehistoric life. Building a raft, they venture across waters inhabited by giant marine reptiles, turning a disputed scientific theory into an expedition through an immense and dangerous hidden landscape.
