A violent storm wrecks a royal voyage and scatters its passengers across a remote island, but the tempest is no accident. Prospero, the rightful Duke of Milan, has used magic to draw his usurping brother and the King of Naples into a carefully controlled reckoning. Assisted by the spirit Ariel and opposed by the resentful Caliban, Prospero separates, frightens, and tests the castaways while arranging a meeting between his daughter Miranda and Ferdinand. His schemes promise restored status for Miranda, yet they also force him to decide what justice requires once revenge lies within reach. Combining illusion, political betrayal, romance, and family conflict, the play explores forgiveness and authority while leaving room for questions about servitude and European colonization.
