In London in 1888, Mary Morstan asks Sherlock Holmes to explain her father’s disappearance and a mysterious message declaring her a wronged woman. The trail begins with valuable pearls delivered anonymously and a cryptic map bearing the Sign of the Four, then widens into a dispute over treasure and inheritance rooted in India. When Holmes, Mary, and their companions reach Pondicherry Lodge, they find a man dead inside a locked laboratory and the treasure box missing. Holmes follows footprints and scent, adopts disguises, and deploys the Baker Street Irregulars in a pursuit across the city. The Sign of Four joins a fast-moving detective puzzle to a darker history of secrecy, possession, and betrayal, while testing the reach of Holmes’s exacting methods.
