Christopher Boone is a fifteen-year-old in Swindon who trusts mathematics, precise observation, and orderly explanations more readily than other people’s behavior. When a neighbor’s dog is found dead, he decides to identify what happened despite his father’s insistence that he leave the matter alone. Christopher records each step in a book, turning interviews, deductions, diagrams, and daily disruptions into his own first-person mystery. The investigation soon reveals troubling information about his family and unsettles his understanding of the past. To pursue the truth, he must eventually navigate an overwhelming journey between Swindon and London, confronting crowds and unfamiliar travel. The novel joins a detective puzzle to an intimate account of independence, trust, and a neurodivergent mind interpreting an unpredictable world.
