After her father’s death, eighteen-year-old Layken becomes the main source of support for her mother and younger brother, even as her own hope begins to fade. A move across the country brings her into contact with Will, her twenty-one-year-old neighbor, whose passion is slam poetry. Their intense and immediate connection restores some of Layken’s optimism, but a shocking revelation abruptly halts the new relationship. Although their circumstances require distance, their feelings continue to draw them toward one another. Slammed centers on the strain between family responsibility, personal grief, and a relationship that promises hope before becoming painfully complicated.
