Pillow Thoughts collects brief poems and prose reflections on falling in love, losing it, missing someone, healing, and learning to offer oneself the care once sought from others. Rather than arranging the pieces as a continuous narrative, Courtney Peppernell divides them by emotional need, inviting readers to choose a section suited to loneliness, desire, heartbreak, encouragement, or recovery. The direct, conversational language often addresses an unnamed “you,” giving private feeling the shape of reassurance shared between friends or lovers. Images of nights, dreams, distance, and memory recur across the collection, but its larger movement is from emotional exposure toward self-recognition. It is designed for selective return as much as consecutive reading, with each section offering a different companion to the reader’s present mood.
