In 1958 Beaufort, North Carolina, Landon Carter remembers the senior year that altered his understanding of love and character. Socially comfortable but directionless, he asks Jamie Sullivan—the shy, plainly dressed daughter of the local Baptist minister—to the school dance when his other options disappear. Their continued contact through a Christmas play draws him beyond classmates’ judgments and his own embarrassment. Jamie’s patience, faith, and unguarded kindness gradually challenge the assumptions Landon has carried about both of them, while their growing attachment exposes them to joys and pain neither anticipated. Told in retrospect, A Walk to Remember is a tender coming-of-age romance about the moral consequences of seeing another person clearly and allowing that recognition to reshape a life.
