About James Dashner
James Dashner is an American writer of speculative fiction for younger readers, best known for The Maze Runner and The 13th Reality series. His novels favor direct, spare prose, brisk dialogue, and plots built as sequences of puzzles, deadlines, escapes, and reversals. He repeatedly places young characters inside systems designed to control what they know, then lets the story advance through incomplete memory, shifting alliances, and discoveries that make earlier choices harder to judge. In The Maze Runner, Thomas enters an enclosed settlement with almost no past and must learn its rules while mapping the lethal structure around it. The Scorch Trials carries the same method into an exposed landscape, replacing the maze with a timed journey through disease, heat, and manipulated distrust. Dashner also changes scale within this world. The Fever Code looks backward to the children’s recruitment and their part in building the experiment, while Crank Palace narrows the larger conflict to Newt’s worsening infection and isolation.
