About Alice Oseman
Alice Oseman is an English author and illustrator whose young adult novels and graphic fiction stay close to contemporary British teenagers as they negotiate friendship, sexuality, mental health, and the pressures of being seen clearly by others. Her method is intimate and direct. Conversational dialogue, spare visual sequences, and small changes in gesture or routine carry much of the emotional movement, while relationships develop through hesitation, misunderstanding, and repeated acts of care. Heartstopper builds Nick and Charlie’s romance incrementally, moving from uncertain friendship into the practical questions of coming out, trust, illness, and sustaining a partnership. The serial structure lets these changes accumulate rather than forcing them into a single turning point. In prose, Oseman often uses a sharply defined adolescent voice. Solitaire filters a school mystery through Tori Spring’s cynical observations and withdrawal, pairing disruptive pranks with depression and uneasy connection. Loveless extends Oseman’s attention to self-knowledge through an explicit treatment of asexuality and a diverse range of sexual identities.
