Rosie Graham has abandoned a well-paid job to pursue her secret career as a romance writer, only to find herself immobilized by writer's block and an approaching deadline. When the ceiling of her New York apartment collapses, she moves into a friend's place without knowing that Lucas, her friend's cousin, is already staying there. Rosie has followed him online; sharing cramped quarters makes his practical kindness and physical presence harder to keep at a safe distance. Lucas proposes a series of experimental dates to restore her romantic inspiration, but his stay lasts only six weeks. The contemporary romantic comedy uses forced proximity and invented courtship to test the boundary between material gathered for a novel and feelings neither roommate can easily classify as research.
