Santiago, a young Andalusian shepherd, repeatedly dreams of treasure waiting near the Egyptian pyramids. Choosing to treat the dream as a summons, he leaves the familiar life of his flock and sets out across unfamiliar lands. The journey exposes him to theft, work, love, danger, opportunity, and teachers who urge him to read both the world and his own desires more closely. Each setback tests whether the treasure is worth pursuing and whether purpose can be recognized through omens, action, and attention. Written with the simplicity of a fable, the novel turns a physical quest into an allegory about destiny, perseverance, and the cost of pursuing a deeply held aspiration.
