After his grandfather Abraham dies and Jacob glimpses a terrifying creature, the troubled teenager follows the old man’s stories and final clues to Cairnholm, a remote Welsh island. There he explores an abandoned orphanage and discovers that its vanished residents still exist within a hidden time loop maintained by Miss Peregrine. The children possess strange abilities: Emma conjures fire, Millard is invisible, and others command plants, float weightlessly, dream the future, or briefly animate the dead. Their refuge preserves them from ordinary time but also shields them from hollowgast creatures that hunt peculiars. Combining conventional narration with eerie found photographs, the novel turns Jacob’s search for an explanation into a fantasy about inherited secrets, chosen community, and the danger surrounding those who cannot safely enter the ordinary world.
