Built around more than 150 hours of interviews, this book records Ted Bundy speaking with writers Stephen G. Michaud and Hugh Aynesworth. The surrounding account identifies Bundy as the serial murderer of young women across the United States during the 1970s. Throughout the interviews, he denies responsibility for murder while describing in the third person how a serial killer might think and behave. His rambling narrative also addresses his youth, shoplifting, drinking, insecurity, and his claim that pornography began his problems. The resulting account places Bundy’s denials beside his extended discussion of violent behavior without presenting that discussion as a confession.
