In Wyoming Territory in 1889, eleven-year-old Bob Starrett watches a stranger named Shane ride into his family’s homestead. Shane says little about his past and carries no visible gun, yet his controlled manner suggests a capacity for violence. Joe Starrett gives him work, and the hired hand slowly earns a place in the household. Beyond the farm, wealthy cattleman Luke Fletcher is trying to drive small homesteaders from land he wants to control, escalating from threats to deadly force when they refuse to sell. As Shane joins their resistance, Bob’s admiration confronts the cost of the skills his hero possesses. This Western examines courage, loyalty, and the uneasy place of violence in building a settled community.
