Misha and Ryen become pen pals when their fifth-grade teachers mistakenly pair them by name. What begins as bickering over music, food, and other preferences develops into a seven-year friendship sustained entirely through letters. To preserve the honesty of that bond, they agree on three rules: no phone numbers, social media, or photographs. Then Misha discovers Ryen’s picture online and decides he has to meet her, crossing the boundary that kept their imagined versions of each other intact. Soon afterward, Ryen’s letters go unanswered, leaving her frightened that something has happened to him. This young-adult romance explores the collision between private candor, public identity, and the risks of knowing someone beyond the page.
