Description

Each year, a fearful town abandons its youngest baby in the forest as an offering to the witch Xan, unaware that she rescues and relocates the children. When Xan accidentally feeds one baby moonlight, the girl Luna gains dangerous magical powers. Xan raises her alongside a dragon and a swamp monster, sealing her magic until her thirteenth birthday in a process that drains Xan’s own power. Antain loses his council position after refusing to participate in the sacrifice ceremony, then resolves to kill Xan when his and Ethyne’s child is selected. As Luna follows Xan into the forest, the town begins questioning its assumptions and Ethyne helps lead a rebellion.
